West Gippsland Arts Centre
The refurbished performing arts centre by Williams Ross Architects is a significant cultural landmark for the West Gisspland region. Envisaged as a place for the arts and theatre to flourish, MDG have extensively reconsidered and modified the building surrounds to create an animated contemporary space. An elevated entry forecourt has been created with a dramatically improved arrival sequence and a strong dialogue with the nearby gardens. The space consists of bespoke walls and seating elements using refined urban detailing and high-quality materials. Previously an introspective and secluded entry, the space now has a confident gesture of opening and embracing the broader context and drawing people to this important civic destination.
