Clarendon Playspace
The brief from Clarendon College for this project was to provide an exciting and aesthetically pleasing play experience to act as a transitional space for Grades 5 and 6 students within the Senior Campus grounds. MDG investigated a number of potential siting locations before settling on an area of dense Elm and Oak
canopy coverage. The design process began by envisaging a ‘treetop’ timber walkway, and evolved into a complex bespoke structure that reflected the high quality of nearby architecture. The structure is not immediately recognisable as a playground, winding and rising across three levels as a giant ‘play circuit’ and including play and gathering zones beneath, hanging nets, climbing walls and slides within a sophisticated and beautifully detailed piece of elevated sculpture.
